After surgery on the first eye, I was given three different eye drops and told when to use them - but lacking was any explanation of what the drops were or what they were supposed to do for me or any problems to watch out for. So, at the first check-up after the surgery, when I complained my eye hurt, I was simply told everything looked fine with my eye (even though it was red and swollen and still is). (Doing my own research, I think the problem is my sinuses and I’ll be seeing someone else to find out if I’m right… but Dr. Daniels didn’t particularly care to help me figure anything out.)
And, most stunningly, when I complained I still had a floater of some sort dead center in that eye (which is why I can’t even get an adequate eye exam done for a new prescription), I was told that cataract surgery wouldn’t correct that problem (as if I should have known that), that the problem was in a completely different part of the eye and required a different type of surgery. Did he recommend or even discuss that different surgery? No. He was too busy and racing off to see the next patient. He also told me I wouldn’t be able to see better until I had a new prescription - which he promised me he could get me. I cancelled the surgery on the other eye and set up an appointment to get a new prescription. At that last appointment, I was only seen by a technician and left sitting in the room for probably 40 minutes by myself while she was apparently trying to get someone else to come in and check her findings. I walked out, telling them I wasn’t a good fit for their office and went home.
I have never had an experience like this with any doctor. Dr. Lonsdale got upset when I asked him about the success rate for Toric lenses for cataract surgery. He said he couldn't say and I said he must have some idea. He said that we didn't have a good relationship so he wouldn't do the cataract surgery. Threatened to call the police. As I was driving down Center St I was pulled over by an officer who had been called. He said I had been yelling at the doctor. I never raised my voice. I guess he feels entitled to alternate facts.
Bottom line is this: if you need cataract surgery and that is all you need, they seem to do a good job. But if problems arise, if you have other problems with your vision, don’t count on these guys to even look for them. Their gravy train seems to be cataract surgery. But you will have to know yourself that is your only problem.
I assume he is a good surgeon, but doesn't want the patient to ask questions.
When I complained I had lost some of my peripheral vision, I was simply told it takes time for the brain to adjust to the new lens. A month and a half after the surgery, I still don't have all my peripheral vision.
This is hindsight talking. In hindsight, I’m stunned I never received a full examination and exploration of why I couldn’t see well enough to have an exam for prescription glasses. I had been referred for cataracts and that’s where the “investigation” stopped. In hindsight, it felt as though I was on a cataract removal conveyor belt.
