Have loved this jewel of Lewiston since I first went in 1990. Great trails, lots to see.
This sanctuary offers trails, a bit of history, and beautiful places to sit. The wildlife is not limited to birds. In my relatively short visit I also saw a woodchuck and fox, not to mention the many frogs inhabiting the ponds.
A nice hike through a variety of habitats. Pretty busy when I was there which may have contributed to the few birds seen. But the power line trail was a nice treat--saw a Fox Sparrow and a White-throated Sparrow.
Over 1000 acres and miles of trails. The trails are well marked but some, such as the orange trail is often narrow with lots of obstacles, are not for everyone. It's a very peaceful place to get in touch with nature and probably as wild as many want to endure without really getting into the Maine woods or wilderness. There are no vistas or view spots, it's intended to be a bird sanctuary. There is plenty of parking with information signs and a pavillion. Note to whoever...the restrooms should not be locked during open hours.
I love to walk here. Different trails. I rotate trails each time. Change is up. Its quiet.
Have seen deer, owls, pilated woodpecker.
