Love this place

Ok so yes this guy seems "grumpy" but that's simply because he cares about his fish like his own kids! He was wonderful towards me n all 4 of my young kids! I'll never buy fish from any of the local pet stores again! I've been in and out for over 3 yrs in those pet stores trying help my daughter (10 yrs old) to get a fish tank and fish and it's never once worked out!! They always die shortly after from getting fish from the LPS until we went to see black shark! Now my daughter has HEALTHY fish plus 2 going be mommy's :) and yes he refused to sell her fish the 1st time going but that simply was because for 1 he DOES care about his fish and his customers but why sell a fish to a different tank if not good for the fish!? ( fish die = unhappy customers) Come to find out after all these yrs the LPS NEVER once told us you didn't just need a filter and heater and regular water changes etc but you also needed oxygen flowing throughout the tank plus must pH test regularly or the fish will NEVER live for long but he corrected ALL our mistakes and helped my daughter by not only selling the correct equipment but he also taught her n physically showed her all she needed to know in order to make this all work and also taught us cheap ways to correct her pH! After it was all corrected we went back a few days later and came home with 3 fish (to start) but that was only when we fixed our mistakes and showed him a perfectly pH water sample and he then was willing to sell her some fish knowing that his fish would survive and she'd finally be happy! So he may seem unprofessional and not super friendly but he really is a wonderful man who's not just looking out for his fish but his customers happiness as well (he may at first refuse to sell fish the 1st time etc but what's the point in buying fish that WON'T survive!? After all you didn't just buy a fish tank for fish to die in a month or less or did you cuz if you did then simply stick to the LPS cuz proper fish care takes time n learning which is why I'll never go anywhere else but here and the fish were cheaper or at least the ones we had gotten from him verses the LPS)! He's looking out for his fish and having HAPPY customers that their fish are in fact HAPPY AND HEALTHY (Hints why he may refuse to sell at 1st simply cuz there's no point when he knows they'll die and you as his customer WON'T BE HAPPY...! So in my opinion he's got 5+ stars!) At the end of our adventure he left us with a smile on my daughter's face (her finally knowing that they'll survive) and said we was welcome to call anytime if any ?s! Plus he's got some really HUGE fish n 1 that's 39 yrs old if that don't tell you his expertise then I don't know what will!

Remember, reputable, responsible breeders sign an ethics contract to NEVER sell their pups to pet stores.

Evidence collected from the Department of Agriculture, Animal Welfare Division in Augusta, Maine shows The Black Shark sells puppies obtained by large scale breeding facilities. (AKA) puppy mills. Their puppy broker is Canterberry Tails, a well known broker that sells pups from the mid west to C.T. to be sold at pet stores in the U.S.A.

The selection of fish is awesome, and the customer service is the best. Decades of knowledge there, experts at what they do!

This guy is full of knowledge. His selection was a bit lacking when we were there but it looks like he has room for a lot of fish. There must be 100 tanks. He also has some large tropical fish and plenty of supplies. And his prices were not bad ether.
