North Atlantic Regional School personnel helped me and my granddaughter in so many ways. She had a difficult first semester in 10th grade- emotionally speaking. My granddaughter failed algebra II and English 10 that semester but went on to get excellent grades second semester and pass her end of course exams. She passed the course but had no credit for the first semester in those classes. NARS assisted us with home schooling in the summer when her school district and my school district would not authorize me to be a home school teacher despite my teaching degrees and years of experience. Credit and very good final grades and a transcript were accomplished.

I am the mother of three adopted children who attended North Atlantic Regional School, and I will say two of my children loved it. They were able to study subjects they enjoyed and to incorporate their academic interests into many classes. However, my youngest daughter is African American, and even though she turned in assignments very similar to her brother's and sister's, and from day one she was held to a higher standard than either of her siblings. The teachers refused her work, even when she did longer assignments with more details, or when she turned in more written documentation. While teachers applauded my son for his interest in cooking, they rejected work my African American daughter did with equine therapy -claiming it was not academic! White boys cooking is academic, but Black girls working in a certified equine therapy program are not! It was pure racism. The director of the school refused to address this disparity of teaching and grading, and so my youngest is out of this racist school. Black families beware! North Atlantic Regional School is prejudiced and downright mean to children of color.

Best high school when it comes to administration, and caring.

Additionally, My granddaughter requested her daily dance instruction and performance work be acceptable for her last physical education requirement. Her guidance counselor thought her dance experience had been approved by the principal. We did also. She already had instruction in various individual and team sports. Days before graduation form high school the principal notified us that she had not approved of dance for a P.E. credit and she would have to take 80 hours of instruction from Missouri State Univ. at a cost of >$800 before she could graduate. I contacted NARS for assistance. The dance teacher was very glad to provide lesson plans, curriculum, criteria for grades and issue a grade. NARS faxed and mailed a transcript on a Thursday and my granddaughter received her diploma on that Saturday. The dance course and grade arrived at NARS before our registration materials but this was no problem either. We remain grateful. We have sent others to NARS since that time and are now contacting NARS again for other grandchildren. Thanks NARS!
